The Joyce Young Memorial Garden is located at the American Legion building at 1361 Main Street. It is located on the left as you enter the parking lot and is visible as you drive south on Main Street. Most of us know the American Legion building as the “Audubon” as the building housed the Glastonbury Audubon Society until 2020. The garden is particularly striking in the spring with its vibrant display of daffodils!
The Audubon asked Evergreen Garden Club (currently Evergreen Country Gardeners) to take over maintenance of the garden in 2013. The club decided to honor Joyce Young, a long time member of the club who died that year. Joyce was a respected surgical nurse in the Hartford Hospital Operating Room.
In 2016 Evergreen Garden Club completed rehabbed the space into a butterfly garden following a detailed design created by club member and Master Gardener, Mary Gavin.
The property housing the American Legion building is currently owned and managed by the town of Glastonbury as part of Earl Park. Evergreen Country Gardeners continues to maintain the Joyce Young Memorial Garden from April through October.
